Skulpturenpark Köln

After an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, the sculptor Ansgar Nierhoff (b.1941 in Meschede, d. 2010 in Cologne) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Joseph Faßbender and Eduard Trier, from among others. By the 1970s he had decided to work in iron and exploit that materials specific technical possibilities. Starting from preparatory drawings of basic geometrical shapes, his massive sculptures have become concentrates which contemplatively reflect their surroundings, be they nature or town scape. His work has been awarded numerous honours and prizes.
