Skulpturenpark Köln

Characteristic of the work of Georg Herold (b.1947 in Jena) is a conscious disregard for technical perfectionism in favour of heterogeneous materials (e.g. brick, caviar, wire, roof slats). His installations, pictures and sculptures therefore defy categorisation in terms of any established artistic tradition. With his political, social and art-historical references to topical political headlines or scientific discoveries, Herold not only positions his own work, but - in an ironic manner that is typical for him - questions the art(market) system. The artist, who today lives in Cologne, emigrated from the GDR in 1973 and has been exhibited internationally since the 1980s.
