Esther Kläs’ work oscillates between a basin form and a multi-part, abstract, floor sculpture, 270cm long and 18 cm thick. On the one hand, this work is marked by its enclosed contour; on the other, the inner segmentation identifies the composition of the whole as composed of single elements. The color traces inside the form suggest a painterly and markedly gestural background, so that the boundary between the categories is blurred. The color generates a feel of lightness, while the concrete material lends the work the flat-out weight of a reclining figure.
