Skulpturenpark Köln

With its traces of workmanship, Peter Kamm’s sandstone sculpture plays with the idea of the geological evolutionary process of his chosen material. Sandstone comes about by sedimentation, making it susceptible to erosion. Thus the sculpture looks like part of a fossil or the core of a larger form that time has weathered. Viewed in this way, the sculpture opens up other temporal dimensions and processes that go well beyond the time-scale of any hand-working by the artist. The sculpture highlights organic forms that let it appear like an alien mass with its own fascinating aura.
