For this spread-out installation, Benedikt Terwiel has taken over different sites for his three elements and so, via their placement, re-interprets the theme of site-specific sculpture. First the base of a sculpture from the collection was reused, then a bollard from urban space was installed and, finally, weights used for anchoring temporary street signs serve as arbitrarily placed objects. Benedikt Terwiel had surveyors chose the sites for these works in reference to the city of Cologne’s official geodetic point positions and then attached the calculated coordinates on small labels to the finds. They now precisely (but for the spaces behind the comma) identify the site of the works installed there. Using banal everyday objects, the artist deployed ad absurdum the technical possibility of satellite-guided, site-specific localization.
Benedikt Terwiel lives and works in Berlin.
